Azura Quilalea Private Island is 32 nautical miles North of Pemba in Mozambique, Southern Africa; the Island is one of the Southernmost islands in the pristine Quirimbas Archipelago, which is referred to as the Maldives of the Southern Indian Ocean.

Completely uninhabited, the island is approximately 86 acres in size and apart from the Azura Boutique Island Retreat, makes it the perfect nature lovers barefoot beach getaway destination.

Ensuring an abundance of spectacular marine life that includes the rare dugong it along with its neighbouring island, lies within a marine reserve. The stunning flora and fauna that provides for extensive age old baobab groves make this retreat a real nature lover's paradise.

With no less than four vast sandy beaches on this tropical island sanctuary, the villas are spread along two of them. Home to dozens of nesting turtles which guests are often lucky enough to see if they visit the remote turtle beaches.

The Island Retreat is referred to as Mozambique's first luxury 'eco' boutique retreat. Featuring only 14 villas, each of which provides its infinity pool, they were constructed entirely by hand working with the local community. These hand-built villas blend all that is traditional in Mozambique with modern chic. Set off by locally sourced wooden beams and traditional artwork beneath a thatched a roof all the creature comforts you would expect from a luxury boutique resort are there.

The welcoming azure sea invites guests staying at this beautiful beach retreat who can wander down to the pristine white beaches and beyond, or just relax on plump cushions on the daybeds, or tan in private or cool off in the plunge pool.

Visitors have the choice of three different room types which are: Sunrise Villas, Sunset Villas and Villa Quilalea.

Dining

Emphasis on fresh seafood, local ingredients with contemporary style and flair has put Azura's chefs in the top echelon of Mozambique's culinary fraternity. Happily, to try and accommodate any personal requests that guests may have, this beach resort always offers a varied choice of dishes, and the chef is only too happy to oblige.

Enjoy a full English breakfast or the chef's selection of the day. Informal dining at the Star Bar, or at the Gekko Deck with their feet in the sand is a favourite with guests or lunch may be a picnic if guests are out enjoying an activity.

Azura offers a variety of unique dining options including secluded beach picnics, or the romantic candlelit private beach dinners at the villa. A dinner is always a special event at the Azura Boutique Island Retreat often eaten on the beach by candlelight beneath the African stars.
