The non-motorized equipment is available at the activity center at the Matemo Island Resort which is situated just below the restaurant and does not require pre-booking. Situated in the magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago, scuba diving at the Matemo Island in Mozambique is considered as some of the best in the world. A range of different scuba diving courses are offered to guests at the Matemo Island Resort from Discover Scuba, Open Water and Advanced Open water. Whether you are a novice or experienced diver, you can experience the magic of scuba diving in the Quirimbas Archipelago in the warm turquoise Indian Ocean.
The majority of the diving is performed off the eastern side of the Matemo Island in Mozambique. All dives depart from the beach either in front of the main public areas, or in front of the activity center.
Dives are scheduled with the guests on the day before. All equipment is obtainable at the activity center and guests are advised to arrive at the activity center 20 minutes before the scheduled time to prepare and check equipment. All of the diving is done by boat - Gulfcraft dolphin 31’ - and the dive leaders are all Instructor qualified to maintain the highest standards.
The reefs surrounding Matemo Island are plentiful, offering a spectacular array of fish and coral. Fishing at the Matemo Island in Mozambique can be enjoyed either by boat or from the beach. The fishing boats provided to guests at the Matemo Island Resort Mozambique include a 31ft Gulfcraft. All fishing tackle is provided on the fishing trips, the rods and reels are all of the highest quality.
The game fishing in the waters surrounding Matemo Island is nothing short of spectacular. Game fish species found in this area of the Indian Ocean include Kingfish, Barracuda, Dorado, Queenfish, Serra, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna and Sailfish.
All billfish are strictly catch-and-release. Fishing by boat is conducted either as a half day (4 hours) of full day (8 hours) excursion. Both excursions include fuel, skipper, tackle, bait and a limited amount of cool drinks. Shore fishing can be done either from the sand spit or the rocks below the bar area. |
